Tourism is a natural occupation for indigenous peoples: as the first inhabitants of their lands, no-one is better qualified to host visitors. The goal of ANPs is to ensure that tourism indigenous people, as individuals and as communities. ANPs provide business assistance to Aboriginal entrepreneurs in the industry; they promote indigenous culture and history as part of the visitor experience; and they encourage tourism practices that are environmentally sustainable and respectful of Aboriginal spaces.
The Aboriginal Tourism Association of British Columbia (AtBC) is a non-profit, stakeholder-based organization that is committed to promoting a sustainable, culturally-rich Aboriginal tourism industry. Through training, information, networking, and marketing programs, AtBC is a one-stop resource for First Nations entrepreneurs and communities who are operating or looking to start a tourism business in the province.
